Dropbox File Requests

The new file request feature is available to Dropbox Basic and Pro users. It’s a great collaboration tool! Here’s how it works . . .

I need to remind my society’s staff that content is due for the society newsletter. We have a Dropbox folder for newsletter stuff so I’m going to send them a file request to put the needed files into that Dropbox folder. From my Dropbox online account, I click the File requests item in the sidebar.

The request panel appears and I describe the files I need in the What are you requesting? box then click the Change folder link and select the folder where I want those files placed. Then I click the Next button.

When the Send file request panel appears, I have two options. I can copy the link and paste it into an email or text message and send it on its way. The second option is to have Dropbox send the request for me. I’ll use that one. Once I’ve entered the email addresses, I click Done.

I’ll receive an email from Dropbox letting me know the request has been sent. The recipient(s) will get an email similar to the one below.

All the recipient needs to do is click the Choose files link to begin the sending process. The recipient doesn’t have to be a Dropbox user and can send files up to 2GB in size. If the recipient needs help, the How does this work? link will take him to a page with detailed instructions for completing the request.

File requests are easy and quick. They make collaboration on projects like our newsletter much easier for everyone.
